weebleOnce again I am going to date myself by referring to a product from my childhood; this one was called a Weeble® made by Hasbro. A Weeble® was an egg-shaped humanoid toy, and no matter how you dropped, punched, or knocked it over would spring back up right. Entrepreneurs need to be like that Weeble®. They need to be willing to get knocked down and get right back up and back on task to succeed. Entrepreneurs (business owners) succeed because of their ability to get back up when something knocks them down.

In business (and life) success comes not from getting every answer right the first time, but from being willing to try a solution and keep trying until you find the right one. It is getting a “no” and being willing to repeat the process until you get a “yes,” whether that is a sale, an investment, or agreement to work together.

The Weeble may go down, but it doesn’t stay down. The Weeble’s tagline “Weebles Wobble but They Don’t Fall Down”® should be the standard motto for the serial entrepreneurial.

Success comes from hard work, perseverance, and a willingness to bounce back up after getting knocked down. When things are tough, all you are hearing is “no”, and you wonder when success will finally happen. Remember to get up and keep going. Change what you are doing, refine your pitch, study your customer, and keep trying until you succeed. Success may be in the next try. It may be require you to adjust your target, try a new strategy or tactic, or fail this time around. Success comes not from avoiding mistakes, but from learning from each mistake what didn’t work and what did. Serial entrepreneurs are Weebles®! They try, they fail, and they try again.

“A failure is not always a mistake. It may simply be the best one can do under the circumstances. The real mistake is to stop trying.” – B. F. Skinner

“Perseverance is failing 19 times and succeeding the 20th.” – Julie Andrews

The real glory is being knocked to your knees and then coming back. That’s real glory. That’s the essence of it.” – Vince Lombardi
