Ending Veteran Homelessness in North Carolina

Lea Strickland talks with Terry Allebaugh of NC’s Department of Military and Veteran Affairs about the program to end veteran homelessness. Here are some program statistics:

  • Veteran homelessness has decreased by 19% over the last year. For chronic homelessness, meaning those veterans who have had sustained homelessness and have a disabling condition, there was a 45% reduction for the same time period.
  • Communities across the state have organized teams to work in highly collaborative models with effective strategies to bring about this reduction. Two city/counties, Fayetteville/Cumberland and Winston-Salem/Forsyth, have ended homelessness for veterans according to standards established by the U.S. Interagency Council on the Homeless.
