Lea Strickland talks with Terry Allebaugh of NC’s Department of Military and Veteran Affairs about the program to end veteran homelessness. Here are some program statistics:
- Veteran homelessness has decreased by 19% over the last year. For chronic homelessness, meaning those veterans who have had sustained homelessness and have a disabling condition, there was a 45% reduction for the same time period.
- Communities across the state have organized teams to work in highly collaborative models with effective strategies to bring about this reduction. Two city/counties, Fayetteville/Cumberland and Winston-Salem/Forsyth, have ended homelessness for veterans according to standards established by the U.S. Interagency Council on the Homeless.
