Do you ever get started on a project and find you run out of steam when the going gets tough? Do you ever start something and then realize your timing is “off”? We all do on occasion. In general I believe human beings are an impatient lot. I know I am one of those people who like to get things done. Once I am committed to doing something, I get it done. Then things don’t go quite as fast as I would like, or results are coming too slowly for me … do you notice a theme? What “I” want? Then I stop and realize if I am truly in the will of the Lord then things will happen—wait for it—when God wants them to happen. So I make haste to complete my tasks as assigned and then I wait for results to happen in God’s time.

If something doesn’t work, I have learned to stop and listen and get clarity. Then I wait. But I don’t stop working toward that objective, that goal God has given me. I press on with the assignment, but accept that His timing may not be the same as mine. I want things to be fast and constantly moving forward. God wants them effective for His purpose and His timing. I press on to learn to listen, hear, and submit. I am learning to simultaneously be bold in my pursuit and submissive in my actions. I am being transformed by learning from delays and timelines, learning that things happen from God’s grace and blessing, not from my efforts. I am to work faithfully and wait on the Lord.

Philippians 3:12 (NKJV)
12  Not that I have already attained, or am already perfected; but I press on, that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me.

Psalm 27:14 (NKJV)
14    Wait on the Lord;
Be of good courage,
And He shall strengthen your heart;
Wait, I say, on the Lord!

I will not be afraid of “failure” in the eyes of the world. My success is rooted in serving the Lord, my God. What man expects and measures is not my concern. What God sees, knows, and pleases Him is all that matters.
