I am going to once again show my age by my reference, but in the 1970’s there was a commercial that talked about bringing home the bacon, frying it up in the pan … and well, doing it all (and doing it well). We’ve been told for decades now that we can do it all, have it all, and go after it “all.” Yet we are getting by on less: less satisfaction, less joy, less peace … AND we are going after it “all” 24 hours a day. In the 1970’s you didn’t talk about 24/7/365, and yet here we are, going for it all, all the time.

Our constant pursuit of “success” leaves us less time for God, happiness, joy, family, and all the richness of life. Our frenetic pace and long hours leave us stressed, tired (if not exhausted), irritable and worried. What if we don’t get “enough”?

We do not have to be 24/7/365. We can stop and rest in the assurance that God is the ultimate Provider and He will never let us be without what we truly need if we are in a relationship with Him. If we are relying on ourselves and not on Him, then we will never have “enough” to be secure, worry-free, and rested. In Matthew 7:9-11 Jesus talks to us about God’s provision.

Matthew 7:9–11 (NASB95)

9 “Or what man is there among you who, when his son asks for a loaf, will give him a stone?

10 “Or if he asks for a fish, he will not give him a snake, will he?

11 “If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give what is good to those who ask Him!

James 4:2–3 (NASB95)

2 … You do not have because you do not ask.

3 You ask and do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, so that you may spend it on your pleasures.

Everything we have is a gift from God. If we look at our circumstances we are RICH! We have everything we need provided by God. If we are in need, we need only ask with the right motives and in the right relationship with God.

Matthew 21:22 (NASB95)

22 “And all things you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive.”
