How many times have you read a chapter or verse of the Bible for the second, third or even fourth time and found new meaning within those familiar words? Today in my Bible study I read the following verses. I’ve highlighted certain verses that seem of particular relevance in this time of challenges in beliefs, upcoming elections that ask us to choose between ideologies and a world in turmoil due to economies, distance from God, and different perspectives on who is in charge.

1 Chronicles 29:10–19 (NIV)

David’s Prayer

10 David praised the Lord in the presence of the whole assembly, saying,

“Praise be to you, Lord,

the God of our father Israel,

from everlasting to everlasting.

11 Yours, Lord, is the greatness and the power

and the glory and the majesty and the splendor,

for everything in heaven and earth is yours.

Yours, Lord, is the kingdom;

you are exalted as head over all.

12 Wealth and honor come from you;

you are the ruler of all things.

In your hands are strength and power

to exalt and give strength to all.

13 Now, our God, we give you thanks,

and praise your glorious name.

What we have is only because God has decreed that we can have it, whether a wealth of riches or blessings, just enough for our needs, or if we have the ability to build and grow things or businesses. It is not what we have that makes us rich, although to be rich in things is a decision made by God and what he gives us to be, do and act upon. Each of us is given the talents, skills, and abilities with which we can do great things that will exalt God giving honor and glory to His Name. Remember to give thanks!

No matter what the day may hold,

If our businesses and lives be blessed

With fields of flowers or of gold.

God’s mercy, might and power

Will be the strength we need

In a troubled hour.
