I am a businessperson, but first and foremost I am a Christian. Many think that those two roles are in conflict. Business and profits have come to be demonized in today’s society, which is not surprising when you think that anything the Lord has blessed and guided us to do is frequently attacked by the world. While some (arguably a small fraction) of businesses operate with corrupt practices, disregard for their employees, etc. MOST businesses operate to serve their customers and are “good” people doing “their best” to run their business ethically.

However, if we as Christians want to have the biggest impact and use our businesses as our ministry, calling people to God and Christ through the visible life we live in our businesses, then we must be Godly and not just “good”. The Bible gives us clear direction on running successful businesses through mirroring the service example of Christ. In Matthew 20:28 (NKJV)
28 just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.

If the Son of God can serve, then we too should be in service one to another. Additionally, God calls us to be honest in our efforts or measures:

Deuteronomy 25:15 (NKJV)
15 You shall have a perfect and just weight, a perfect and just measure, that your days may be lengthened in the land which the Lord your God is giving you.

And there are many more verses of scripture that tell us how to live and DO business according to God’s commandments and laws. God intends us to prosper to honor and glory HIM! Through our prosperity and success we witness that God is good to His People. Our success may not be measured according to the vision of this world, but we may be blessed with great material wealth – asked to be stewards of God’s riches – and with it we are expected to do much.

Luke 12:48 (NKJV)
48 But he who did not know, yet committed things deserving of stripes, shall be beaten with few. For everyone to whom much is given, from him much will be required; and to whom much has been committed, of him they will ask the more.

The one thing I want most in life is to finish the race of the ministry that Christ has given me to work through my business to reach others and bring them to Christ. If just one soul is saved from my efforts then it is worth any cost. I also want to teach others how to start, build, and run businesses according to God’s plans and direction. And if each of them save one soul through their example in business, then well done!

Isaiah 40:31 (NKJV)
31    But those who wait on the Lord
Shall renew their strength;
They shall mount up with wings like eagles,
They shall run and not be weary,
They shall walk and not faint.

Acts 20:24 (NKJV)
24  But none of these things move me; nor do I count my life dear to myself, so that I may finish my race with joy, and the ministry which I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify to the gospel of the grace of God.
