The path we walk as Christians is narrow, but clear. It is a path that is straight, but has many distractions, temptations, and potential detours, so we walk it with care, but we must ensure care doesn’t mean we wear blinders to the ways of the world. As Christian business people, we encounter many in our daily lives who do not know the narrow way. For example, if you a seminar on how to improve your sales and the speaker refers to a “technique” that will be the “secret to success,” but there’s something not quite right here. The “expert” presenter tells you how to get into those unreachable decision-makers through a series of phone calls and “little” lies. He talks about how you “leverage” your connections by “representing” them as the person who wants your “target” to meet with you.

In this example, if you follow the seminar leader’s process, you may get “in” and you may get the sale, but it all began with a lie. His way is the worldly way and it may work, but it is the wrong way to do business. Any “success” that begins with a lie is not success, but failure. It is a failure to follow God’s ways and to rely on His provisions and plans.

The world is full of pressures to be successful, to get the sale, to have more, be more, and show that world that you are prosperous … and in pursuing that measure of prosperity, you wake up and find your eyes focused on something other than God and His path. You allowed your feet to go off the path and follow a detour into the world.

Good news! You can turn back and get on that path. You can go back to walking one foot in front of the other on that clear and narrow way. All you have to do is take that first step back onto the path, turn back repent of your worldly ways and put your focus on God.

Deuteronomy 5:32–33 (KJV 1900)

32 Ye shall observe to do therefore as the Lord your God hath commanded you: ye shall not turn aside to the right hand or to the left.

33 Ye shall walk in all the ways which the Lord your God hath commanded you, that ye may live, and that it may be well with you, and that ye may prolong your days in the land which ye shall possess.
